End of term: A Poem

End of term

White T-shirts are dishwater-grey

Trouser legs too short

I am feeling tired and rather tense

The kids are overwrought

The book bags got a hole in it

The shoes are not much better

What’s the time of the school trip?

Where’s the flaming letter?

Sports day’s in 5 minutes

The disco is tonight

I’ve got assemblies, awards, a pirate’s ball

To fit in by Tuesday night

A high point was the school report,

As was parent’s evening

Although how many reports our theirestate,

“Your child’s no hope, I’m glad he’s leaving”.

The boys count down in seconds

To when this term will end

And in about three weeks, I’ll count down the days

’til we  start back at school, again.

    • Hope you ended up having a great summer hols. We did although we are all getting pretty tired now! I’ve enjoyed having all boys at home but no, nothing bad at all with thinking it will be nice for all of us when school starts again!

  1. Very similar feelings here. Same grey school T-shirts, shoes probably too tight (he’s not complaining too much!), hole in the book bag. I was wondering earlier whether we could get away with keeping it for September… probably not! Still buzzing from the excitement of the start of the holidays. It’s only been 8 hours but already they are rebelling and bedtime was hectic with a hint of rebellion.

    • Hope you have had a wonderful summer hols. Our gleaming white, spanking new t shirts have just been delivered to the door. Still need to remedy the book bag by Wednesday! Wish me luck.

  2. You have some good imagery. Would strengthen the piece to replace the verb TO BE with more active verbs. =) A relief you have your possessive pronouns right! Many struggle with that out here. =)

    Best,
    HW
